Finessen - One Step

Finessen’s “One Step” is pure fire with a sound and substance that absolutely stun. Vocals here possess a tremendous soulfulness, for he delivers every single verse with such intensity. Unflinching in its exploration of relationships, the way it keeps on digging deeper and deeper into the thoughts that run through the mind have a grandeur to them. This message is done such justice by the lush, luxurious sound that has a heady flow to all of it. Like swimming underwater, the layers of sound have a hazy quality to them, ebbing and flowing with such consideration.

The song begins with mere snippets of sound. Gradually the rest of the piece comes into focus and upon the first drop of those lyrics, the song begins in earnest. His storytelling ability feels unparalleled for it deftly balances the hard and the soften. Stylistically it runs the gamut from hip-hop to ambient to R&B to pop, all while putting his own distinct imprint upon it. Bass here goes for a force of nature quality as there is a cadence to it that has such serenity. Evolution of the groove further adds to the living, breathing quality of the piece, for even the arrangement seems to hint at the difficulty of what it means to be in a relationship and how difficult choices are made. 

“One Step” shows off the impeccable skill of Finessen in exploring a life lived to the absolute fullest, with all the love, joy, and pain that come with it.

FBMKing - Edin

The 16 year old prodigy FBMKing is a very talented young artist on the rise. While having a small but promising catalog fbmking hasn’t disappoint yet, that doesn’t change with his new single entitled “Edin”. While rapping over a slow beat and showing a more sensitive side on this song King shows a more unique style of vocals that separates him from the pack.

Lately King has been seen sampling his new project set to drop later this year which fans and critics alike cannot wait to hear. If you enjoy good music the best thing for you to do is to stay tuned to see what King does next!

Manservant ( Papa Shango’s second Album )

Papa Shango’s second album “Manservant”. Is by far the best thing I have heard in 2021, funny, clever and with powerful rock hooks. The standout tracks for me were Buoys Ahoy, Sasha Grey and Sniff the Milk. The less said about “Dangerwank” the better (cough). It is clear these are outstanding musicians having lots fun with each other and with their fans. 

If you ‘re reading this review and know about Papa Shango’s growing cult I salute you. And if you’ve been lucky enough to have witnessed their live shows, please tell what it was like. 

If you haven’t heard Papa Shango, get on board as quickly as possible, I understand their third release “Risk Assessment”. Will send them stratospheric and there won’t be enough room for you to sniff their milk. Get it while it’s fresh.
