Groove Doctors 3: Professors by Day, Soulful Groove-Makers by Night

In an era when so many bands chase chart numbers, this trio from Michigan proves you can follow your passion—and still pack a punch. Groove Doctors 3—made up of Mike Lawrence (guitar/vocals, Professor of Law), David Stowe (drums, Professor of Religious Studies), and Glenn Chambers (bass, Professor of History and Interim Dean)—turned their late-night jam sessions into a fully formed act. Formed in 2023, this tight-knit group has already cultivated a reputation for energetic, soulful performances laced with both deep cuts and original gems.

Their debut album Live And Let Live, released May 23, 2025 via Maintain Zen Music, is a 15‑track mix of seven originals and eight covers. It captures the lively spirit of their stage presence—warm, groove‑centered, and unapologetically authentic. The title track rings like a mantra: “Live and let live / Love and let love…”, a lyrical philosophy embodied in the trio’s approach: heartfelt, unpretentious, and rhythmic.

Musically, the album weaves rock, funk, R&B, and soul with seasoned ease. Lawrence’s guitar delivers classic Motown warmth and ’70s rock grit; Stowe and Chambers lock in rhythm so tight it feels like a long‑standing groove pact. And with guest keyboardist Dick Bourgault on board, the arrangements feel full and vibrant, yet never overproduced.

Critics like EARMILK praise the release for its “soul, sincerity, and good old‑fashioned musical chemistry,” crediting the band's refusal to chase flashiness for their authenticity and community spirit. As Flex Music Blog notes, this isn’t studio‑trickery. Instead, listeners feel like they’re dropped right into a live room session—emotionally honest and grounded.

The band’s roots as real‑world academics–turned‑soulful performers is their central allure. As Spartan Magazine quips: “Professors by day, swingin’ after dark.” Their sets include covers from Prince, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, and more, alongside original tracks destined to become deep cuts of their own.

In today’s fast-paced music scene, Groove Doctors 3 offers something rare: mature musicality shaped by lifelong experience and a genuine love of groove. Live And Let Live is less about ego and more about connection—an invitation to slow down and sway together.

Groove Doctors 3 may call this a side project, but Live And Let Live sounds like a main-event debut. With seasoned musicianship and soulful sincerity, this band offers a sound anchored in authenticity—perfect for listeners craving warmth, groove, and human connection in their music.

Interview with BG The Boy Genius

Albert Einstein wrote, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.

Everybody is a Genius. Everybody has at least ONE thing they were blessed with. One thing they can tap into and simply be, a Genius.

Whether you’re an athlete, a musician, from exotic dancers to stay at home mothers, you, yes you, reading this right now, you’re a genius. Find it. Own it. And be yourself.

That’s who BG The Boy Genius is. From your greatest of highs, to your lowest of lows, BG provides the soundtrack to a lot of our every day lives.

After all, music is a reflection of life, and BG the Boy Genius, holds the mirror for us all.

Be yourself. Be a Genius.

We had a great conversation with this talented artist BG The Boy Genius, enjoy the interview here:

Love Music : Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education, music etc. ??

Well, I’m a 26 year old single dude, 2 kids, that makes fire ass music. I’m just a normal guy going through life, and documenting my experiences along the way.

Love Music : What made you realize that music was your path?

Music was always first and foremost a therapeutic thing for me. And once I realized the same effect music had on me, I could relay through my own music to others, i knew it was my destined path.

Love Music : We been hearing a lot about you and Genius Minds LLC, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

Absolutely fantastic. We all really keep a winners mentality around here, we all work real hard together to achieve this common goal and it feels phenomenal to be building some traction.

Love Music : Please tell our readers about your upcoming project?

My debut album, indiVisual, is close to finally being completed, I’d say about 75% of the way done. I’m about 2 years into the creating of it and I’m so proud of what I have crafted for you to listen to. I even stepped out of my comfort zone and produced a lot of the beats on the album myself.

Love Music : Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to be a professional Rapper/Singer?

Professionalism is key, maintain your relationships, and stand for something, be yourself, love yourself. Do things for you not for other people.

Love Music : What are your future plans as a CEO of Genius Minds LLC ? Your vision for the coming years.

I’m really hoping to branch out beyond music into other avenues of entertainment, we’re currently looking for any comedians/ actors/ actresses to work with!

Love Music : If you could perform anywhere, in the world, where would it have to be?

Europe!

Love Music : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?

I play entirely too much Fallout with my manager, video games in general really. But other than that I spend all of my free time with my children and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
