Interview with Gideon Smith - A Multi Talented Artist

Gideon Smith is a North Carolina based musician who began singing in rock bands in 1989.Growing up Smith spent parts of his youth in Japan, Indonesia, France and Quebec. In 1996, he formed Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned with former members of Los Angeles based group Animal Bag and recorded a self-titled ep distributed by doom metal label Game Two Records.

Gideon Smith's music has been featured on such hit television series as The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, Dog The Bounty Hunter, Dudesons in America, Nitro Circus and more. Gideon’s underground cult icon status has grown to such proportions that in 2010 a tribute album was released entitled “F.T.W.”(F*ck The World) that has seventeen artists from around the world covering his musical works. Classic Rock Magazine featured Gideon as one of the best newcomers in their “150 Greatest Debut Albums” issue and included a song on the magazine's cd.

Check out the interview :

Love Music : Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education etc. ??

Gideon Smith :

Music has always been a huge part of my life when I was growing up I’d hear the music of the 60’s or 70’s my family members loved like rock, blues, old classic country, bands like Zep, Queen, The Dead, Doors, Allmans and Skynyrd, Carole King and David Bowie. I grew up pretty much a forest running hippie child. I was fortunate to spend time in Japan, Indonesia, France and Quebec all of which will always hold much love in my heart. I loved my roots in Asian and Native American cultures, the French and British. All that being taken into account, my view of southern America is kind of deeper than the surface of how most people see this area of the country. The south is a mysterious, beautiful and mystical place. I loved archery, forests, animals, the ocean and mountains. Music to me was something I loved to listen to and fun to do, so when I got serious about it my perception of being in a band and the experience was very different from your typical bar nightlife type pursuits. All that was just part of the scenery. I was immersed in ancient history, pagan religions and had stood at Napoleon’s tomb, at Mount Fuji and places like Sumatra and Jakarta before I ever went to a nightclub in the USA to see a band. When I picked up the mic it was just the start of another adventure. I saw the magic in music, so it was magic that opened the doors. I’m not sure I ever fit into music scenes. I just stepped inside them and kept clearing a path like the poem ‘Road Less Travelled’. If I didn’t fit in, I didn’t even try. I just carved my own path.

Love Music : We been hearing a lot about you, and your music has been featured on television shows like The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy and more, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

Gideon Smith :

Being part of those series on television over the years is a great gift to my music and story and I am really thankful for those. It definitely turned many people on to my music that had not previously heard of me or would not have known about my music.  Much respect to everyone involved in those programs for helping me be a part of their great work. It’s a great feeling to be connected as an artist with such high quality programs and be a part of their history.

Love Music : At what point did you decided to become a singer ?

Gideon Smith :

I went to Jim Morrison’s grave in Paris.  I always loved the Doors, bluesy type baritone singers, so that was what inspired me. It came easily to me, where as some of the other styles people follow in metal or rock, weren’t as natural at the time. Over the years my abilities got sharper so now I sing in different styles but I guess I will always be a blues based singer, it just came naturally. I was never a singer in a choir church type stuff, never took vocal lessons, I just say sing from your heart and be real. To many people strain to be something they’re not. Anyone can be in a band or sing, just do what comes naturally and the style will appear, be it classical violin or rap or metal, whatever comes from your heart you’ll take to it naturally.

Love Music : What are you working on now and where do you feel your music is headed?

Gideon Smith :

I have been recording when I can but not playing live shows in recent years. I have a side band which is slow heavy doom metal inspired by bands like Black Sabbath and seventies rock, it’s called Cemetery Crows. It’s very heavy, doom/gothic/death metal. I have been collaborating with my friend Kim Karnes on vocals and will be recording with some guests as we move along. It’s a fun style because it’s very raw and minimalistic in ways but by the time it grows it’s pretty psychedelic and trance like, so it’s multi layered levels of heaviness, all about the riff and atmosphere. C.Crows is definitely the heaviest music I have done stylistically. I also have a few other side bands in the works and time will tell about those too. Like any big music fan, I listen to all kinds of music so I approach my music the same way, I play whatever makes me happy and just keep being true to my creativity.

Love Music : Who are your musical inspirations?

Gideon Smith :

My favorites are Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Cult, Beatles, Stones, Elvis, Sisters of Mercy, Sabbath, mostly what people today call classic rock bands. I listen to all kinds of music. Lately I listen to mostly reggae, old original founding fathers of rap, blues like Robert Johnson, gothic rock, some death and black metal. I listen to Buddhist and Hindu chants, Japanese music pretty much every day. Music is like painting with different colors, I enjoy whatever appeals to me from an artistic and emotional point of view. Music should be primal and tribal, ethereal and beautiful. Power and passion come in many forms.

Love Music : What motivates you to do your best work as a Singer ?

Gideon Smith :

Lyrically probably powerful emotional situations. I sing from my heart and write about universal themes, my songs are about things all people know and experience in their own way. I’m always inspired by passion and other forms of emotion. My favorite songs are passion and love songs. Angry songs can be very cool and serve a purpose for a healthy release as all songs do in their own way for the singer and the listener, but I like ones about the fire of the heart best. Music shouldn’t be one dimensional, so really songs should be about all kinds of things and they mean whatever they mean to the listener.Even deeply personal songs may take a different meaning on to a music fan, so I think the story behind any song should be the one you feel when you hear it.

Love Music : If you could perform anywhere, in the world, where would it have to be?

Gideon Smith :

I would tour anywhere in the world that would welcome me really. I hope one day to play all over the world where people would want to see me or hear what I do. I’m a very multicultural person, so as I honor many cultures, I would like to play music for all of them too. Music belongs to all of us without boundaries, so as a musician and a man all I see is adventure, love and magic, as music is a ritual we all celebrate and partake in.

Love Music : What are your future plans to singing ? Your vision for the coming years.

Gideon Smith :

I hope to return to playing many live shows and record as much music as possible. I have a lot to give so I need to make sure I can give at least a good bit of it to people out there who want new music. I never talk too much about future plans, I have learned it’s best to let time unfold and tell the story.

Love Music : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?

Gideon Smith :

I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, communing with nature and my eccentric spirituality. I love yoga, martial arts, skateboarding, archery and animals. In quiet down time I like to meditate, learn, read, study. I spend a lot of time alone these days and learn from solitude. I believe if you’re going to spend time with people it should only be with people who enrich your life. I don’t waste my time, I don’t waste my love and I don’t waste my music. Hold all the sacred things in your life high and follow your heart like a tiger.

Love Music : How can people find you and follow you online?

Gideon Smith :

I have a website which is gideonsmith.net. You can keep up with me there for news and check out some of my history and material from over the years. Thank you very much for the interview and I send you much respect and appreciation.  Be brave and give your love. Peace, G

Charlotte Gainsbourg

Charlotte Gainsbourg was born on 21st July 1971, in London, England. She is a Famous French singer & actress. She is the daughter of English actress Jane Birkin and French singer and songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.

Charlotte Gainsbourg says :

" The English was really my mother, it was never me. Being the daughter of my father, I always felt very French. "

At 13 years old, she recorded her debut, Charlotte for Ever, an album of songs written by her father, singer/songwriter/provocateur Serge Gainsbourg, that was inspired by the film he directed and in which they both starred. In the 2000s, Gainsbourg performing the spoken word introduction to Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl" in 2001 and lending backing vocals to Badly Drawn Boy's 2002 album Have You Fed the Fish?

Charlotte Gainsbourg :

"At the beginning it wasn't to do with the work, it was more the experience. "

While appearing in projects such as Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep, she began work on her second solo album, enlisting Air's Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin as composers, Jarvis Cocker and the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon as lyricists, and Nigel Godrich as producer. The resulting record, 2006's 5:55, paid homage to her musical heritage and defined her as an artist and interpreter in her own right. It also went platinum in France, although an American release in spring 2007 didn't fare as well. Gainsbourg returned to the studio quickly, enlisting the help of another A-list producer, Beck, to help shape her newest batch of electronic pop songs.

Quote of Charlotte Gainsbourg :

"  I hope I'll consider my next part, having learnt from this one. "

Vanessa Carlton on Growing Up and Letting Go of "A Thousand Miles"

Thirteen years after her debut and chart-topping hit, "A Thousand Miles," Vanessa Carlton has grown into a sound that is more true to her real musical ambitions. She traces her expanded sound's origins back to her 2011 album, Rabbits on the Run, and with this year's Liberman, her transformation and maturation reached a new level.

We talked to Carlton about loving short albums, how her ballet background helped inspire her musical sensibilities, and how listening to Bob Dylan's radio show on vacation kick-started the creative process for Liberman.

Q : Our review of Liberman said that your sound now "feels like a truer reflection of her intentions" than your hit. Do you agree with that?

Vanessa Carlton: Yeah, I think I’ve certainly gotten better at creating shorter path in between the intention and the product. I think that comes with a lot more experience and working with some incredible artists on this record, along with Rabbits on the Run, I think it’s a combination of those two things. Now I see why someone would say that.

Q : Each album you release is just a little shorter than the last. Do you think you're getting more efficient as a songwriter?

Carlton: Totally, and I love a short record, honestly. Maybe the next one will be a bit longer, I have no idea what my next move will be, or if it’s even in the form of an album. I love a 10-song record, I love the model of vinyl, even though this record wasn’t analog at all. I like side a, side b albums. Maybe it’s a little bit of an OCD thing, I always liked two even sides.

I think we just wanted to stick with the essentials, this album is about the essentials. It’s particularly what made us feel great in the studio, the only rule we followed in the studio was what made us feel euphoric or good, there was no obligation to radio, to labels, to critics, there’s no pressure except for trying to make the thing cool.

Q : What's an example of a succinct album that you love?

Carlton: I was listening to tons of the Crosby, Stills and Nash record, their self-titled one where they’re sitting on the porch. I don’t know how many songs are on there, but that record, right after I finished Rabbits, I was like, “This is my favorite record in the world.” I listen to stuff now that I think the baby wants to hear, too, but I’ve also been listening to a lot of Kurt Vile lately, I really like him.

Q : "Blue Pool" really stood out on the new record. Can you remember where you were when you had the idea for that song?

Carlton: I wrote that one in New York, and I used to be a ballet dancer, so I love waltzes, and I try to have one waltz on every record, I think I almost have. That was the waltz of this record, and it was written on piano, very traditional-sounding, and I wanted to take it to a completely different dimension, so I guess there are little remnants of Philip Glass-ish type things, which I love. It’s mostly a dance-y feeling song that I wanted to take off of the piano so it wasn’t traditional anymore. Then I wanted it to really feel like you’re going into a euphoric state in the choruses and at the end.

Q : "Unlock the Lock" also jumped out. How did that song come about?

Carlton: The concept for that song came from when I was in the desert, I was in Tucson, Arizona, at this dude ranch that I go to almost every year with my family to ride horses, it’s on a reservation in the Sonoran Desert, it’s thousands of acres of preserved land, it’s unbelievable. All you do is ride horses and then it gets too hot and you sit in your room and wait it out until the sun goes down. They had just upgraded the rooms to satellite radio, and I was listening to a Bob Dylan radio show where the theme was locks and keys. All of the songs on this episode were like old songs from the thirties up through the sixties, and all the songs were about locks and keys. That’s when the concept of “Unlock the Lock” came, the whole feeling around it. The way I did the Garage Band demo of that song was what I wanted the whole album to sound like. That song, with quite a fitting title, was the beginning of Liberman.

Q : In your live set, you play almost half of the new album, in sequence. It must be fun to dedicate such a big chunk of the show to new material, especially all in one burst like that.

Carlton: When you come to a show, you’ll see that we’re not playing completely to track, but there are a number of sounds that are coming through pedals, and we have a lot up onstage, and it starts to feel more like the album. So the other songs are in their own world, and the live show becomes a meal, the entre is Liberman, it all has its own recipe. We stick with that so we don’t change the vibe and make it jarring. It totally flows well. It’s nice, because people are so welcoming of the sound of this record and me growing up and the evolution of it all.

There are plenty of people who come and are there to hear a song or two, and they’re more than happy to also buy the new record and hear the other stuff. Then there are kids that only know the new stuff, which is awesome. I can get away with that, and I appreciate that. I feel like on this album, and from the critics, who I don’t pay too much attention to, but it’s been a pretty warm reception, I think people are finally letting “A Thousand Miles” go a little bit and letting me grow up and listening to this on its own and not comparing it to other things. I appreciate that, it feels like a good time.

Q : What is your relationship to your older material like at this point?

Carlton: I wouldn’t be here without them, so in the live show I’ll showcase my favorites. I think I’m a better editor now, so I’ll pick and choose based on where I’m at, at least for the live stuff, I’ll pick and choose a setlist that makes more sense. I think I’m heading in a direction, and I don’t know what the next step is, but I want to keep moving forward. I don’t want to mimic anything from my past, I love being in the studio and being creative and pushing beyond what we did before, not just to be different, but to follow instincts. I think the greatest thing you can do and the greatest gift we have, any artist, is that freedom to follow your instincts, because if you aren’t doing that, it’s not really a whole expression. It’s nice to get it out the way you want to get it out, and this has been a good moment, for sure.

I’m so lucky that these amazing artists will collaborate with me, I think it was when I had just come up with the concept of Rabbits on the Run and I reached out to Patrick [Hallahan] from My Morning Jacket and Steve Osborne, and I almost didn’t even want them to know my name, I didn’t want them to look at anything I’d done, because I wanted to do something completely different. I only sent them my new demos that I was working on, and Steve didn’t know who I was at first, he just liked the demos. Patrick also said that he just liked the demos, and that means more to me than anything, it means that this work is based on where you’re at now.

Interview with Dotti J - A Famous Singer/Songwriter, Dancer & Entertainer

Dotti J is a American singer-songwriter, dancer, and entertainer from the small town of Tequesta, Florida. Her music has been played on multiple international radio stations ranging from Europe to Indonesia. She has been featured in UK's Beat 100 Online Magazine which touts her as the new upcoming artist to watch out for on the Pop/Dance music scene.

Check out the interview :

Love Music : Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education etc. ??

Dotti J :

I am a singer, entertainer and songwriter out of Florida who has been dancing since the age of 3. I am the youngest of my siblings and the only one who made a career out of music and entertainment. I was extremely focused in school and got good grades so most of my family thought I would pursue medicine or law. I was a natural  athlete growing up so I played nearly every sport at one time or another, but eventually gave them all up the busier I got with dancing. I had scholarships to multiple colleges for golf and eventually decided to attend UCF in Orlando, Florida!

Love Music : We been watching you and been hearing a lot about you and your work from plenty
people we notice you're starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

Dotti J :

First off thank you for that!  I am extremely  grateful to hear you say those things. It feels pretty surreal at the moment.  I’ve always wanted to make a difference and to share music, love, and a message with the world, so  the fact that people are starting to hear about me and my music feels incredible! It is  kind of unexplainable at times. I am very excited to build a fanbase all over the world and be able to connect with my fans and share moments with them.

Love Music : And what you say about your first single “That Girl” ?

Dotti J :

It is still to this day one of my favorite records I have done. There is just something about the song and the whole experience writing and recording it that just stays with me. It’s definitely a female anthem for sure because it’s just talking about being that badass chick in life and for her man. Someone that can elevate people to another level and hold them down when they need it the most. It is a positive song and a cool message for the ladies to feel and own.

Love Music : What motivates you to do your best work as a Singer & Songwriter ?

Dotti J :

Just staying true to myself, being honest about my thoughts and feelings and having a good time with it!  I like to write about things that I have or are currently experiencing. I tend to just let my lyrics and music be my way of getting my thoughts out and most people can relate in some way or another.

Love Music : You are featured in UK's Beat 100 Online Magazine, as the new upcoming artist, so what is
the secret behind your success & popularity ?

Dotti J :

Oh wow, I am not sure what my secret is really! For the success part I would say I have just worked really hard at my craft and never gave up. Everytime I dance, perform, or sing it’s from the heart. It is my way of just living for the moment and leaving it all on the stage. I’m thankful for the talents I have been given and I just try and use them everyday to take full advantage of them. I’m so grateful to be able to entertain others and do what I do. As far as my popularity goes, I just like to be open as an artist and I’m never out of reach to my fans. I feel people appreciate that and can relate to me. I hope people can see my heart and passion in what I do and how humbled I am by everything I have been able to experience.  I try to bring new things to the table as an artist and try new things all the time. I never pretend to be something I am not and I think people can see that genuineness.

Love Music : At what point did you decided to become a dancer & entertainer ?

Dotti J :

I started when I was 3 years old to be honest and I always said I wanted to do it as a young child but I think it really really hit me when I went to my first concert. I remember looking at my mom and saying “THAT is what I am going to do, that is what I am suppose to do!”

Love Music : What are you working on now and where do you feel your music is headed?

Dotti J :

I am currently writing and recording more music while I am in rehearsals for my show. I am so ready to get out there and perform with my dancers that I can’t wait! The music I tend to lean towards the most is just hard hitting dance music bc it allows me to be able to incorporate a show into it all. I really just write and make music that I feel in that moment...whatever comes out creatively, I just go with it.

Love Music : What are your future plans to singing & songwriting ? Your vision for the coming years.

Dotti J :

In the future I would love to continue to write not only for myself, but  for some other artists as well. I love collaborating because it’s such a cool thing to be able to feed off of other people's creativity and energy while you are vibing out. I have created my own publishing company so in my future I would love to be able to help other people get their music out there and be behind the scenes supporting them on their journey. I will definitely continue to sing and perform because that is part of who I am, I want to travel the world and build a relationship with people through my music. Music is a language that connects us all in some way or another and I feel that it is so powerful.

Love Music : How's your feelings when you danced on MTV for the music video "Fire It Up " at the age
of 9 ?

Dotti J :

It was probably one of the coolest things ever! I was 9, so at that time in my life I felt like I was on top of the world! It was the first big thing that had happened to me as a performer and I remember being away from home and going to rehearsals and being the youngest one on set.  I remember just hitting that stage and just getting lost in the music, I was dancing so hard! Being in that situation helped me see how to be professional at a young age. It was such a memorable experience and I still have the MTV jacket to this day! When I returned home I felt like the coolest kid ever!

Love Music : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?

Dotti J :

I love to go to the beach! I will listen to the waves and then pass out in a deep sleep! I also enjoy spending time with my close friends and family so whenever I go home and hang with them we love to play golf. I like to just have fun and enjoy all different activities! I am a big kid at heart so I love to play sports and games. Then there are times I just want to read a great book, hang with my dog, and be in silence to just take everything in.

Interview with åMBe - A Multi Talented Artist

Love Music recently interviewed the famous Artist & Producer åMBe, who has been blessed with gifts of love, music, and motivation. As a Multi Talented Artist, she has been able to touch and gain thousands of fans from all around the world.

Check out the interview :

Love  Music : Let’s talk a bit about you being such a multi talented artist ?

åMBe :

Well, I started to learn the violin when i was 4 years old, and simultaneously I started playing the piano as my second instrument. But I always wanted to sing and compose my own music and songs - no wonder, since my mom used to sing professionally and my father was a classical pianist and composer. So, i guess i'm simply very lucky with my heredity and with my parents kicking my ass when I was too lazy to practice scales))

Love Music : How did you meet Avant-Electro producer Brian Forbes and how did you start working together?

åMBe :

I was introduced to him by our mutual friend, and we started to work together basically right away. "Of Your Crimes" was the first song that just came out of us during our very first improvisation session. Obviously we've spent many hours finding the right sound, producing and polishing it. I recorded all the violins and violas - there were about 80 string tracks- in my basement. And then Brian did a lot of electronic wizardry and drums that really blew my mind. Our team-work felt very natural. We both are leaders so we tend to argue in the studio a lot, "smile" but it always comes out for the very best, in service of the music that we are working on.

Love Music : Please tell our readers about your new upcoming album  “ åMBe- "Enemy of the People"?

 åMBe :

There are going to be 8 tracks on the album. We will release them single by single, along with the music videos for the songs.
We've been purely and completely creative working on this album. The main goal for me here was to be the most ME that is possible. My most artistic and musical self that  I have ever been before. I love this album with all my heart. And it has nothing to do with it being mine. I am just simply happy that it's my baby.

Love Music : Obviously, your music is a complex mix of different music styles. What was the inspiration for this particular sound you've gotten there?

åMBe :

Well, I was not specifically thinking about putting together any different musical styles. I was not doing any mathematics. As I said, the main thing I've been doing my best to achieve, is to be my most true musical and poetic self. I wanted to deliver the sound of my inner universe as accurately as I could. You can’t truly create anything new without at least referencing the old. New colors are just new shades and tones that we get from mixing existing colors. Like in the case of “enemy of the people”, i would say there is mostly the mix of pop and electronic, with some touch of classical strings and piano.

Love Music : If you could perform anywhere, in the world, where would it have to be?

åMBe :

I have never thought about a specific place... I am not sure that for me it's about a place. I care about being able to do my music and express my thoughts and feelings in my own music language. And if there are people interested to listen to it, if it resonates with them and makes somebody happy.. - that is what is the most important to me.

Love Music : How did you get to know Grammy winning composer and pianist Fernando Otero?

åMBe :

I was actually performing at Cafe Vivaldi in New York, just a week after I came here to America. And Fernando was there for his friend’s performance. As he told me later, he was actually running to catch a flight to Buenos Aires that night. The only reason he decided to stay a little longer after his friend finished playing was curiosity. Quoting his words: "I picked up your flyer among others that were laying there on the table, it had a picture of a young beautiful girl saying:  "singer, songwriter, composer, poet, pianist, violinist..." I was simply curious to see that monster. And then when you, that "terrible monster", sat down at the piano and started to play and sing... Then I stayed so long that I was almost late for my flight." That's what he told me in the letter he wrote me a week later, making an offer for us to collaborate by working on some music.

Love Music : Last year you record an album with Fernando that got nominated for a Grammy in modern classical music?

åMBe :

Yes, I was a featured soloist on 4 songs on the album. It is  the greatest pleasure to work with Fernando and to sing and play his music. Every single time we get together, We have a lot of fun and we eat a lot of Pad Thai. It is now our ritual every time we are working in the studio.
