Interview with Psychodelic Caravan

Psychodelic Caravan is a Kansas City, Missouri based classic rock cover band comprised of music scene veterans performing everyone’s fave blues & classic rock radio hits. The guys are currently busy writing a few original songs and preparing for an early 2024 international release.

Hello Brion, thank you for being with us today! Let's start from the very beginning. How long has Psychodelic Caravan been performing shows together?

Brion Holcomb: It'll be 7 years this November when we first started getting together and rehearsing songs and seriously putting the band together to go out and start hitting clubs. With the long-term goal of doing original music as well. But we spent a couple months in the basement and our first gigs weren't until the following Spring.

How many members are in the band and what are their names?

Brion Holcomb: We're a three piece rock band from the Kansas City, Mo. area. All veteran players who each have had their own musical paths that have made us the player's we are today. On drums, vocals, dazzling socks & The Bus Driver is "Smokin' Doug Thompson. Bass guitar, vocals & most of our limited choreography are handled entirely by Mr. Allen Brooks. I fill in the rest of the sonic space with some stand out footwear, vocals and a guitar that goes from Sweet to Blazing (depending on the song)!

Where does the band mostly play?

Brion Holcomb: Over the years we've played a lot of the clubs on the east side of the Kansas City, Missouri area. Quite a few of which are not in business anymore, but we still are. I think that's a good sign. We also play in Iowa quite a bit in the summer. We seem to do real well with the bikers up there and the regular folks too at the bars and motorcycle rallies. So that's been a lot of fun for us. We've also played in Kansas a little bit and we're always looking for new places to play for sure! We're at the point now where we'd like to expand further into Columbia, St. Louis, Omaha. Expand our range a bit.

After seven years together, and doing around 50 shows a year, you guys are a well-established music reality in Missouri and Iowa. How do you guys keep the spark alive after many years of playing together?

Brion Holcomb: That's a great question. I think the main thing is we just try to have fun with it all the time. We're at the point in our lives where if it is too much work then it's not fun anymore. So we've choose to keep it light.

We don't take ourselves too seriously. Nobody bags on anybody else. If they have a problem with something we all try to pitch in and make it happen. I think we've got a pretty good friendship going amongst us where we can all talk about whatever's going and hopefully work out whatever it is.Then we go on and we have a good time with it and try to put on a great show. I don't think in a three-piece. You can phone it in at any time. You have to put on a good show every time or else it could be ugly.

Many bands work on their material from the very first day, and this can result in a sound that is not united, solid, or fluid. Psychodelic Caravan has strong pillars now, and a style that is mature and unique. Do you think this is one of the elements that will make your new original songs better than if you had recorded initially when first formed?

Brion Holcomb: Well, I've played in a lot of bands over the years. Both cover bands, originals only and combinations of the two. It seems to me that it does take a while for a band to develop their identity and see what rolls everybody's going to play on stage and off. Everybody's got got a part to play both on stage and behind the scene, my personal favorite loading equipment, but I digress. The advantage to us being together so long now is we've all got the same attitude. We've even got a look and we've got a sound. If you've ever seen us play live, you know that we take a lot of liberties with the cover songs anyway and make them our own.We have a huge pallet of grooves and sounds to choose from with our originals and I think people are really going to get a kick in the ass out of them.

If you could collaborate with an artist that has inspired you, who would it be?

Brion Holcomb: Oh, wow! Haha! I guess I've got two replies to that one. If it was anyone alive or dead I'd have to say Jimi Hendrix I mean how great would that be? He's the guy that kind of inspired me to start playing the guitar as a kid and I like his whole zen approach to life. We've all got to love each other, you know. Hmmm, now living artist, I'm going to say my dream collaborator would be Brian May. He's still kicking ass and he's another guy that inspired me to play the guitar and sing. I'd say he's definitely got a little blame in it.

Are you looking to get on any Midwest or national tours next year?

Brion Holcomb: Yeah, we're really looking to take it to the next level next year.. The band will have some original songs to promote! Not just t-shirts.

Although, have you seen our t-shirts? They're pretty kick ass. Tie-dyed shirts that you can read I'm A Psycho on them from across a field! We're hoping we can keep turning heads like we've been doing at some of these big abate rallies and such. We're always willing to talk to anybody that wants us to play a club, a party or a show and we're always open to assistance with promotions and bookings.

Blues, rock, and much more, Psychodelic Caravan has its own sound and style. Is this due to the artistic vision that you guys share with your audience?

Brion Holcomb: I think we view it as more of a symbiotic relationship between the artist and the audience. A lot of it is trial and error. We're constantly trying to acquire more material that goes over well with the majority of the people that dig us.

You guys wear a lot of very colorful clothing on stage. How did the tie dye stage look come about?

Brion Holcomb: I remember seeing an interview with Elvis and he said that Liberace told him to dress as wild as he could because you want people to know you're the talent. You're not just another dude in the bar. And going with the tie dyes is just the latest incarnation of that attitude. But you never know what kind of crazy stuff we're going to wear next.

Brion, it was such a pleasure having you with us today! Is there anything you would like to say to our readers and your fans?

Brian Holcomb: Well, thank you so much! It's been a pleasure. We want to thank everybody that's been supporting us over the years. All our friends and family and we want everybody in the world to look for our songs when they come out here next year. Be sure to check out our Facebook and YouTube pages. Peace out everybody!

Alpha Cat Takes the Music World by Storm with Their Latest EP Release

Alpha Cat, the alternative rock band, has just released their latest EP entitled “Venus Smile… Retrograde” through the Aquamarine record label. This new release showcases Alpha Cat’s growth and evolution as a collective, bringing together their unique blend of music and talent to create a powerful and thought-provoking collection of songs.

The theme of the EP revolves around the idea that a broken heart can reveal what a person is made of and the overwhelming exhaustion that society experiences in the current world. The songs also reflect Elizabeth McCullough’s observations of the world becoming too divided and extreme and her search for a hopeful resolution and reconnection of these separations.

The band consists of singer, songwriter and acoustic guitar player Elizabeth McCullough, guitarist Doug Pettibone, bassist Reggie McBride, drummer Jason Harrison Smith, percussionist Manuel Quintana, cellist Jane Scarpantoni, and Murphy Bug on backing vocals and additional guitar and bass. Each member brings their own unique musical background and talent to the band, making for a truly dynamic and diverse sound.

Alpha Cat started as a band and has since transformed into a collective, bringing together musicians from different backgrounds to create their unique sound. In the mid-90's, Elizabeth McCullough, a photographer and songwriter, reconnected with some old acquaintances, including James Mastro from the Bongos, and Richard Lloyd from Television. This led to the creation of their first studio demo and the beginning of Alpha Cat’s journey as a band.

Chris Butler, who is known for his 80's hits such as “I Know What Boys Like” and “Christmas Wrapping,” wrote a review of an early London show for Britain's “Get Rhythm” magazine. He described Alpha Cat’s work as “funny, intense, and surprisingly beautiful, 'how the fuck do you steer this thing called life' songs."

With the release of “Venus Smile… Retrograde,” Alpha Cat continues to captivate audiences with their thought-provoking and powerful music. Fans of alternative rock, as well as those seeking a fresh and unique sound, will not want to miss this latest offering from Alpha Cat.

We interviewed Executive producer and label Exec Roy from Big Condo Records and this is what he had to say..

Love Music: Tell us a little bit about Big Condo Records. The background of the label etc. ??

Big Condo Records was established in May 2015 and was started by Liverpool artist Royzy Rothschild. He was fascinated by the music industry and wanted to run a label which would support all genres, as his favourite record label is Atlantic Records and the history they have over there. Over the past 8 years Big Condo Records has put on over 500 events and worked with over 2,000 bands and artists. We’ve worked with some major artists and delivered 100's of singles, whilst touring regularly with our acts. We currently manage 20-plus artists and our main passion is A & R (Artist Development) for new and existing career artists and bands.

We have regular pioneer showcases called Refreshment and Bandzilla, plus so many more including our weekend festival - The Big Condo Records Weekender.

We are a multi diverse company and we work within the community raising much needed funds and awareness for charities too, some to include The Ocean Cleanup, the James Bulger Memorial Trust, Alder Hey Childrens Hospital and Roof Liverpool helping the homeless.

The Slogans for the label are ''We are the label'' and ''When words fail, music speaks''.

We support artists, bands and industry professionals - that's what we do.

Love Music: We been hearing a lot about Big Condo Records worldwide, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

It feels fantastic to hear our label artists having airplay and spinning on radio in a multitude of different countries and to get recognition worldwide, from RKC FM in Paris, Radio De Schans in Amsterdam, Flag Radio in Japan and so many more. We know they have heard of the label from New York to Australia and beyond and if not the label, then our artists. It's a pleasure when international demos come rolling in.

Love Music: Which genres you are specializes?

The main genres we cover are Folk, Pop, Rock, Indie, and Rap but we love to work with artists from all genres.

Love Music: Any upcoming projects from the artists on the roster?

We have loads of EP's and Singles dropping this year from the Big Condo Records Roster. We have Brian Hobbs releasing ‘Everything’s Alright’ on the 27th January and we have Royzy Rothschild ft Empra Ely and FortyGees releasing ‘Choices’ in February. Emily Callacher is releasing her single Barcelona in March and The Glass Skies will be releasing ‘Memories’ in April, so we have a busy year lined up with records being released.

Love Music: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?

We have had loads of moments from going on tour, events and headlines; we also were nominated as a multi-diverse company at the National Diversity Awards, Music Business of the Year. We also won Best Independent Label and Artist Management awards over the past couple of years. So many memories, too many to name.

Love Music: What's your goal at the Record label, what you wanting to achieve next?

Well the future for Big Condo Records is going to be filled with developing artists and bands. In 2023 we are signing more acts to our wonderful roster and some more awards for the work we do and the artists would be appreciated.

Love Music: What motivates you to do your best work as an independent record label?

The thing that motivates us the most is when the artists get very creative and get us excited to be a part of their projects, going through the building blocks and development stages. We love to watch our artists hit their musical milestones and achieve new things each year. That keeps the fire in the belly.

Love Music: Who's your favourite artist or band at the label?

Haha! This has been asked time and time again - we don't have favourites! All our artists are in their own lane and at different points of their music career, but we would like to shout out Royzy Rothschild, The Glass Skies, Emily Callacher, Miss Stylie, Christy Myers, Charliee, Clio, Donno, Hikstr, Brian Hobbs and the rest of the team. Let’s see what they bring this year.

Interview with Ina - Lead Singer of pop-rock Band KingQueen

Love Music: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education, music passion etc. ??

I’m Ina (aka Sabrina Pertini) - the lead singer in pop rock band KingQueen. I’m from Sweden and now living in Los Angeles. Music has always been a big part of my life and Los Angeles has been a important place for my growth.

Love Music: We been hearing a lot about your band, so we notice you’re starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?

If feels great, it’s always been about the songs and making people feel something. Seeing that it’s working with our latest release “Burn This Motha” is humbling and exciting.

Love Music: Can you please tell our readers more about your pop-rock band?

We’ve been together for a few years but it feels like everything truly came together during the end of 2021. We released a EP in 2022 and went on the Golden State tour, got to perform stages like San Francisco Pride to San Bernardino Fair with Quiet Riot. And we released our single “Burn This Motha” with a music video in Dec of 2022. Our sound is edgy yet vulnerable lyrics, catchy chanting choruses and stadium feel music.

Love Music: Any upcoming project?

We are currently recording an album which will hopefully be out before May 2023 and we’re planning another tour.

Love Music: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?

Performing at San Francisco Pride in front of thousands of people and just feeling the togetherness with everyone. It was so uniting.

Love Music: What’s your goal in life you want to achieve next?

Continue to write and help people heal.

Love Music: What motivates you to do your best work?

Helping others! Being part of someone’s playlist making them feel less alone. Putting on a good show helping someone forget about their stressful day at work. And also; myself, I am intrigued by life and how us humans can grow and do better, get better and perfect anything we put our mind to. There are no limits to what we can achieve. I’m enjoying everything I’m doing so far but I’m always curious about how good of a writer I can become or if I can be more energetic live. I enjoy the challenge. I always want to push myself to do better and I don’t get tired of it.

Love Music: Did you choose this industry, as a career, or as a hobby?

It definitely chose me. I didn’t even know I was writing songs as a kid, I thought I was just writing my thoughts down and adding Melodie’s to it. Music has saved me in so many ways and helped me to stay on track in life, and in some situations to get back on track. Music is always within me.

Love Music: Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy exercising, watching sports (especially soccer), playing video games and hanging out with my pets.
