Interview with Niki Rubin

Love Music: You are a singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and entertainer. How do these different roles influence your creative process? 

My creative process naturally pulls from each of these roles separately and together as so much of my life has been dedicated to them. My inspiration is always being channeled in these directions. I am a naturally, extremely creative person and I have always been. I have also been connected to these roles through my passions basically my entire life so my creativity usually is geared into these passions. I always hear music in me, I always think about my performances from an outside perspective as well as from the entertainer perspective. Singing is as second nature to me as speaking. These are just some examples of their constant influence. Everything I see, hear, experience, think, feel inspires everything I do within these roles.  

  

Love Music: Your new video for “Dreaming of You” from the Precious Soul EP has just been released. What inspired this song, and how does the visual bring its message to life? 

The inspiration for my beautiful song “Dreaming Of You” is a combination of things. Cultivating, manifesting, and affirming the most beautiful, divine life and self. A portal of the loveliest vibrations, energies, atmospheres, experiences, and dreams. A world created by the song that is a lovely energy and atmosphere. The visual of this video aids in providing this atmosphere that is positively inspiring. Otherworldly dream realm, blended with the physical reality. I wanted it to feel dreamy. I wanted it to have bright colors amidst the background. In the video, my soul, spirit, energy, voice, music, dancing, vibe and intention provides color to the physical world which can be difficult to see the beauty of and I help provide the sight and sense to see it. At the same time, the visual brings to life the positive affirmations of aligning and existing in the individual viewer’s beautiful dream for whatever it is they wish for themselves.  

Love Music: Precious Soul carries a very emotive title. What themes or emotions were most important for you to express throughout this EP? 

To create the understanding, love, expression, frequency, experiences and respect of being a precious soul. Upliftment in the most beautiful ways that resonate with the most divine essence of the soul and outward, in addition to powerful keys that bring out aspects of our souls that are mystical, magical, whimsical, and ethereal.  

Love Music: As an independent artist working with Independent Forever Records and Alms. International Music Agency, how has independence shaped your sound and career decisions? 

I am able to really be me; to put the real me into everything I do; to have balance as an Artist, Creator, Being, and Mother. I have no limitations as far as the direction I take my music and productions. In fact I am celebrated for my choices along the way. I am able to deeply connect with my true self and essence and express these aspects of myself and am encouraged and celebrate doing so. I am treated as a multi-faceted being whose uniqueness through all I do is honored, wanted, and supported; not as a machine or a product, but a living, breathing being, a Goddess who has so much to offer that is of value and worth. They are also honest, educational, and fair so I also really enjoy working with them for this reason as well.  

Love Music: You’re currently working on a new album in the studio. How is this upcoming project differ creatively from Precious Soul? 

I don’t think it differs as much as is the next step in the journey of Niki Rubin’s Music which is always to uplift and positively manifest in some way on some level. I treat all of life as experiences that led me to my presence and that each presence helps shape my future. Like all of my life, I go deeper, I peel back the layers, I cultivate beautiful energy that actually creates the most beautiful worlds. Each song is its own world that pulls us into it and fills us up so we exist in it. I use myself and my music, and really all I do, as a channel for the divine and what I feel is missing and needed in my world first, thus the whole world. This new album will be the next step in all of this from Precious Soul and I am excited to experience how it all comes together as I go. I definitely have my own styles and I love expanding myself through them. I already have a working title, which is a powerful affirmation and I have already been working on the next songs for it. One of the songs on the new album, for example, helps us start our day in an amazing energy alignment. For all of my music, my base is R&B, Soul and Dance and my connection with nature, mysticism, and the divine come through the songs with intentions of helping whoever listens to feel good.  

Love Music: Being a 3x award-winning actress and composer, how does your acting background influence your songwriting and performance style?  

My background with these things helps provide me with empathy, emoting, relating, remote viewing of myself from all angles, storytelling through the music and performances and creating the world, energy, and atmosphere I am cultivating for all who experience, hear, witness, and enjoy my songwriting and performances.  

Love Music: Your music is available for placement, licensing, and syncing. How important is music licensing in today’s industry, and how do you approach creating music that works across multiple platforms? 

Licensing, placement, and syncing is a wonderful way to get the music, my artistry, and myself out there and bring money in for the music I put so much into creating. When I create music, I feel that there are billions of people in the world and many different platforms and opportunities bringing the possibility of people connecting with my music. I believe in staying true to myself and my purposes and believe that people do and will connect with it because of this. I love my music and it is the main music I listen to and because of that, I know others do and will as well. My music sounds great and feels great so I love all of the possibilities and opportunities to get my music heard and experienced through multiple sources and platforms.  

Love Music: As a producer, what elements do you focus on most when shaping the final sound of a track?  

The elements I focus on most when shaping the final sound of a track depend on what the world of the song I feel needs to sound like and feel like through every moment of the way, as well as where it brings me and what it leaves me with while listening and after listening. My music must make me feel good and be pleasant to hear and experience the entire way through. All of my songs have a hypnotic, magical element to them and different sounds, blends of sounds and rhythms, and layers of these mixed my beautiful harmonies are important to the final sound. Sometimes my voice is a more prominent lead vocal and sometimes I blend it more with the song if that is what I feel the song calls for. The elements of feeling my songs and tantalizing our different senses, both physical and spiritual, as well as psychic play a huge focus on the final sound, as well.  

Love Music: With your music reaching audiences across streaming platforms and social media, how do you stay connected with fans in a constantly evolving digital landscape?  

I approach what I share the same way as how I approach my music. 

 I think social media is wonderful for helping people know about and connect with my music so all of my offerings for my fans carry the same vibrations, energy, intentions, purposes and cultivations through everything I do and put out there. My music matches my being and my being matches my music. I connect through the intention of helping people feel amazing and have great in they lives through my music as I use social media to help them be aware that I have this for them out there. For example, if someone on social media expresses feeling down, I let them know about my amazing music I make that can help them feel better as this is what I make my music for. I, Alms. Intl. Music Agency, and Independent Forever Records make sure my music is available on as many platforms as possible and through as many sources as possible throughout the world and up to date with where things evolve so we keep evolving and expanding as we progress, while staying true to myself and purposes.  

Love Music: Looking ahead, what can listeners expect next from Niki Rubin—both musically and creatively—in the coming months?  

The most lovely, unique, special, beautiful, powerful, uplifting vibrations, songs, atmosphere, and worlds through sound and visuals that make us feel positively amazing and divine and align us with positively amazing and divine. So much loveliness in store for listeners and viewers, so every one needs to make sure they stay tuned in.
