The Joy of Urban Hip-hop Music

Did you say "Hip-hop"?  It is difficult to find exactly, the origin of the word " hip-hop, " but there is indeed the English expression "to be hip" which means "to be in fashion " and the verb "to hop" which means "to jump ." But perhaps it is also necessary to look for " hip" in the sense of "competition," or maybe not ...

In any case, the term "hip-hop" defines today's living and eclectic urban music current.

Usually, hip-hop is considered a musical stream based on rhyming at high speed on a rhythmic basis. But in reality, this is only one of its slopes, rap, a musical genre of urban character and reclamation. Hip-hop is the culture that encompasses and cannot be equated with the simple fact of singing. This cultural movement was born in the 1970s on the Bronx district streets in New York as a response to the oppression in which African citizens lived. There are mainly four manifestations of this subculture: graffiti, DJ, MC, and break-dance.

The performance of Hip Hop mixes, in successive levels, genres that for the western culture would be different and separated (music, poetry, dance, painting). The differential is the interpretation, the fusion of all these elements that makes of it an artistic form that would not be equivalent to the sum of the separated elements. To understand the multidimensionality of performance, it is necessary to do so in its social context.

Since its evolution throughout the southern Bronx, hip-hop culture has spread to different urban, suburban, and community cultures around the world. As a result, Dallas rap music was birthed through the hard and dedicated work of rappers.

The rapper Cary Woods, also known as OG 2G  is one of the main figures of Urban hip-hop music in Dallas. The singer is highly recognized, thanks to his great mastery of improvisation and the exciting content of his lyrics.

This artist is not a simple singer; he has advanced beyond writing good rap. Cary Woods is an intellectual who has also sought to help the less privileged social classes.

Furthermore, he has created a new sound bringing the south and Dallas urban music scene to a "whole new level"! His positive words along with his thrust to help his community has brought the song "New Wave" to the top of the charts in his local area! Being a single father with a positive outlook on life and helping others has allowed him to grow a following that can only grow worldwide! Being home grown from Dallas, Texas has allowed him to tap into the true urban rap scene giving listeners the inspiration they need to be more not only financially but also more within their community! OG 2G, through his website http://www.2gmuzik.com, lives and breathes the words in "New Wave" and is pushing them to the rest of the world in hopes that they can inspire others to live the "new wave"!

Interview with Imani Wj Wright

Love Music : Tell us a bit about any projects you're working on.

Currently I am working on two projects. One EP and an album titled Transmogrify. Transmogrify is something many of my fans, supporters, and followers should enjoy. It hones in on almost all aspects of me and my artistry. My saxophone play, singing, keyboard play, rapping… I'm excited to release it in the upcoming months.

Love Music : We been hearing a lot about you, so we notice you're starting to gain a lot of attention. How does it feel?

The feeling is indescribable. Being an artist, one of your greatest hopes is for people to appreciate what you do. I think that goes with just being human in general. When you've put so much time, love, and sweat equity into something, your end goal is to make sure all of that was worth it. Recently, I've been feeling it paying off, and it's a blessing. Thank you to all who have been there through the process, and to all who are joining the process. I love you all.

Love Music : Please tell us more about your latest Song: "Lady" ft. Mile$  ?

Lady has to be one of the most fun songs I've ever recorded. I had first recorded it by myself with different instrumentation and verses. Then one day I was thinking to myself: “Wow, Mile$ would really be a nice touch to this song.” Mile$ and I have had previous success on our collaborative track “Window” and I knew he would do well with “Lady”. He ended up adding an entirely new dynamic and feel to the song. People seem to really feel it, and I have a great time performing it with him. We have many shows on the East Coast coming up right now, and we'll definitely have a good time with “Lady”!

Love Music : What motivates you to do your best work as a musician ?

My competitiveness and my drive. I have been actively pursuing my goal to be one of the most influential artist of all time since I was 7 years old. Nothing will take away my motivation and discipline required to keep striving towards that feat.

Love Music : How would you describe your current sound ?

That is something I try not to do. To all my artist out there, never put yourself in a box and generalize yourself, art is too complex and too detailed for that. At any given moment your “sound” can change. I like to keep everything I do eclectic and versatile. I really leave it up to the audience to determine my sound. My job is to just give them the sound to determine from.

Love Music : What kind of training have you had, if any  ?

I have had many forms of training starting at the age of 11 with my first instructor, opera singer, Keri Marshall. I have a pretty heavy background in Opera, and musical theatre. Some of my extensive training has taken place at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, the Washington National Opera, and the Lyric Opera House of Baltimore. My time at those institutions had changed my life. My opportunities, accolades, and cultivation as an artist are all in some way a product to my time at those institutions.

Love Music : Who are your musical inspirations?

Anyone who knows me can tell you my number one inspiration as an artist is Miles Davis. When it comes to songwriting specifically, Marvin Gaye is my top influencer. As far as singing goes, Freddie Mercury from the group Queen influences me with his vocal range and lack of “fear” while he's singing/performing. His lack of fear meaning his avant-garde approach to the music and how he makes it all fit.

Love Music : Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to be a professional musician ?

I'll keep this answer short and concise. Expect failure. Accept failure.
Don't “accept” it and just let it go, find your flaws, then floss your flaws.

Love Music : How is your clothing line Swano doing?

Swano is doing well. We have a few new designs that we're working on now and are excited to release soon to the public. As always, you can purchase Swano gear at NoveltyMi.com .

Love Music : What's the best way to follow you ?

You can follow me on Facebook as: Imani Wj Wright and Instagram as: Imaniwjwright1. Also, you can check out my latest music on all streaming platforms as Imani Wj Wright.

I had a great time chatting with you guys.Swano!
