Interview with Gary Davis

Love Music: What does your band name mean?

We was only going to be a recording project and we wanted to work with all different musicians and for them all to get lost in our music. Maze seemed to fit what we was trying to achieve.

Love Music: What are your influences and do you bring them into your music?

My influences are from the 90’s britpop scene, bands such as ocean colour scene, oasis but also older period bands such as The Who and the kinks.

Love Music: How did you meet?

Me and Paul met about 20 years ago working for a print company in south London. After work we use to go for beers and talk music etc and 10 years later we formed the theme and when I left 3 years ago, still missed the music so decided to form maze as a recording project. Once you’ve been in the music industry it’s very hard to stay away.

Love Music: How do you write and record songs, what is the process behind this?

I usually write all the songs apart from Groundhog Day which was written by Gary Davis. My writing consists of walking around the house with a acoustic guitar and trying out chord progressions. Once a progression works the melodies come easy, then it’s a case of writing the lyrics and recording a demo on my home studio. Not all songs end up being shown to band members “only the good ones”

Love Music: What does your band sound like? For people who have yet to hear you.

Obviously we have a very 90’s sound. Because that’s the era that got us both into live music! But I’ve got so many influences that I can hear them all somewhere in my music. From Rave music to Motown/Soul

Love Music: You've gotten the attention of lots of new fans, so how does it feel?

Feels amazing, it just started out as a recording project but then getting jack, lee and Sam involved for a one of gig then recording an EP it as gone mental with the attention we have received.

Love Music: Can you please tell us more about your latest released?

We have just released from start to perfection. A 4 song EP we recorded it live at Ascape Studios, and wanted to keep that live recording sound. We knew the songs so well before recording, so we just turned up plugged in and recorded. Everyone knew their parts and it was recorded in a day. No over tracking or massive production.

Love Music: Nice, Any upcoming project?

New Single in the next couple months, followed most probably by a Another EP. We can’t wait to start our new single Far Away at Caretaker studios. This will be a massive song and the production will be massive as well. Completely different from our latest EP.
This will start with laying down acoustic guitar and the rest of the song will be added piece by piece.

Love Music: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?

The new Maze EP bring released and never expecting the attention as received so far. We’ve sent copies of the ep all around the world. And the love is definitely there for us. Without that we wouldn’t be continually trying to strive to create better music. You can never let the grass grow around your feet, always keep moving and strive to achieve better with every release. And I think we are doing that.

Love Music: Your favorite quote?

he who dares wins G

All or nothing P for me you can never go into anything half heartedly. You are either in or you’re out. Step up show your passion and be counted, nothing in life falls in your lap. You have to go out and get it!

Love Music: How can people find you and follow you online?

People can find us on Facebook and Instagram, the EP from start to perfection is also iTunes and Spotify or on CD via PayPal mazemusicuk@hotmail.com
